By the 1871 census William was a scholar and the family had moved to 40 Clifford Street, Chorlton On Medlock.
He was 21 for the 1881 census when he was a clerk in the cotton industry (his father was a cotton merchant) and he still lived with his widowed father at 62 Ducie Grove, Chorlton On Medlock.
By 1891 he has his own house at 24 Alexandra Grove, Chorlton-on-Medlock where he lived with Annie and their first two children, Richard (1 year old) and newborn William.
By 1901 the family has moved to 65 Palatine Road, Northenden, Manchester, Cheshire.
He died in 1937, aged 77 years.
